Good price, low output

I've done a lot of testing on solar panels (I use different kinds for different applications), and I was expecting a lot from this panel. I have about 6 other Callsun panels that perform really well. Actually, this past week in southern Mississippi my 3 100W Callsun panels, linked together, produced 336W, which I'd never seen before. But this panel doesn't do that. When at home (southern CA) those same 3 panels put out 283W, or about 94W/panel. Bu the best I could get form this 120W panel was about 88W, so considerably less, on raw output as well as percentage, then my other panels. The other pic shows a solar controller with 14+ volts charging a LiFePO battery, showing it works fine. These are also bifacial panels, and if you don't know, this means any reflected light that strikes the back of the panel also produces power, but my testing, and others I've seen on youtube, show it doesn't produce much. Quatitatively, I've seen only about 3-6 watts. It would be more with a very light-clored background (snow) where it would matter much..

Solid 120W bifacial solar panel

It has been nothing but fog, rain and darkness for nearly 2 months so I have not been able to fully test this panel to test real world performance in good sunlight and with bifacial results.

At this time ny review is based solely on build quality, appearance and durability.

Right off the bat I can see that these are very sturdy and well engineered. All of the lines. Corners and seems are smooth and even. The MC4 connectors are solid and have to play or wiggle to their mounting point in the panel frame. They are also easily attached to my other MC4 extension cables and benefit from a quick disconnect prong that makes them usable without tools. They are a bit taller than some of my other 100W panels, but this is to be expected since these are 120W bifacial panels meaning there is more surface. However it still fits into a generic carrying case that I use with multiple varying size rigid panels. Ultimately, I know that real world performance is what people are interested in. I've waited and waited to try and get a food sunny day to test with and mother nature just isn't cooperating. Personally, for the quality alone and the low price of this label (backed by a reputable and common solar panel brand name), I really don't see how you could go wrong with this model.

Excellent bifacial gain!

Build quality is great, as. you'd expect for panel of this class. Fit & finish is clean, this nothing like the shoddy panels you'd find at harbor freight.

Its cloudy and overcast today, an excellent day to test bifacial gain. For my off grid solar projects, I have far more power than I need in the summer, so the design pont is what I can get on cloudy short (winter) days.

To test it, I layed the panel right side up on its shippng box (to fully block the "back" side) and connected the wires in short circuit. My non-contact DC amp meter measured 1.4 amps (well below the spec sheet because its a cloudy day). So under heavy cloud cover the front side produced 1.4 amps with no help from the back side.

I flipped it over, so the panel is upside down. Again on the box (to fully block the "front" side). My meter measured 0.94 amps with the back side facing the sun. So back side is around 67% as productive as the front side. This is with no help from the front side as its laying directly on the box to block the front.

I then put it right side upon the corner of the deck, laying horizontal (no tilt torwards sun - but that doesn't matter much with it so overcast), with the panel at rail height above the deck. Now it measured 1.57 amps. That's just 0.17 more than front alone, but keep in mind that's coming from the shadow on an overcast day with very poor light to start with.

If you're debating whether or not to get bifacials, consider this:
- bifacial adds very little to the purchase price
- they're a huge help in snow. The snow will reflect light up off the ground making the back side highly productive, and when the panel is generating from the back side it also generates some heat to melt the snow off the panel. So bifacial helps you twice in the snow: more power initially and providing heat to melt the snow off your panel quicker.
- look into vertical mounting. Some have started mounting bifacials perfectly vertical with good results.
- the benefit of bifacial over monofacial panels isn't drastic, but it is help when you need it most!

Solar versatility

I'm finding more and more ways to use solar power, so I was excited to get his full size 120W Bifacial panel to "play". I didn't have a specific project in mind, but this gives me a little more ability to mount than the flex panel I have been using recently, as well as much more quoted power.

The panel is well made, and was well packed with no damage. The frame is solid and is fairly light weight.

My first test was a simple battery charge through a solar charge controller. I just had the panel sitting on chairs on our back deck, so it was picking up reflected light from the snow on the deck, as well as some direct sun from the top side. In this case direct sun is relative since I'm in the dead of winter in the North East USA. That said, my charging controller was showing as much as 5a on the display when I had the panel tipped towards the sun.

This summer I have a few more ideas to try at camping, I'm addicted to having some off grid capabilities!

I Wish All Panels Performed Like This

First off, excellent packaging and panel arrived in perfect condition. Don't always receive them like this.

This is pretty much the latest-and-greatest in cell structure - N-Type. Supposedly very efficient and work better than older p-type panels in partial shading.

And this panel performs. Just propped it up to approximate best angle to the sun, and measured over 164 watts of output - From a 120 watt rated panel! Normally when reviewing panels you need to revert to the "I'm happy to get 85% of rated output since the rating of these panels is done in perfectly controlled laboratory conditions." But not with this Callsun panel (or the other ones I have bought from them in the past). Now one can happily say that the panel is performing at 136% of its advertised capacity.

I wish they all performed like this.

Good looking and well built panel too. But you can normally tell that just by looking at the packaging. If care and money went into protecting the panel during transit, the manufacturer/seller normally provides a good panel as well.

Easy to mount these panels to adjustable angle racks with the pre-drilled holes on the back side of the frame.

Wow! this 120W Solar panel really puts a lot of power well beyond the spec.
I got 148W in January! see picture
The panel is well built, it has the same width as my 100W panel but it is a little bit taller.
It is about 15 lbs, not heavy at all.
The only bad part is that this model, CN120, is no longer available, I wish I could buy more!

callsun always produces a solid solar panel and this is yet another example-120watt

This is the 5th Callcun panel I've had and they are all very good contenders for a great solar panel at the right price. The connectors are good quality, they are soldered well to the panels, the frames are strong and yet still lightweight and they all perform at or better than normal ratings of 80%. There are not a whole lot of brands on here that I feel excited to get. This 120 watt single panel is the same size as last years 100 watt panel and the finish is perfect. Testing on a cold January day with just a bit of sunlight I got 52-60 watts at 22volts- about twice as much watts as I was expecting on a day like this. I have no fears this will perform as expected. The MC4 conn ectors are good and it looks and feels strong.

If you are shopping for a solid panel with good specs, certainly put any Callsun panel on your list. This 120watt version has all the right connectors, mounting options and specs

120W version

I have the 120W version of this. It is a very nice panel. I've used a few flexible one-sided ones, but this is the first doublesided/bifacial one. This allows the panel to get energy from the front and back (ie from reflections off the roof or gravel or such). They're usually best mounted mid-air, but it will work fine in a normal flush mount too, you just may not get as much benefit from the back side.

It uses standard connectors and is pretty much plug-and-play.

I like that it has four zones on the single panel, so if one of them is too shaded it just doesn't produce electricity while the rest continues to do so normally (it's essentially 4x 25W panels stuck together). It allows much better production on cloudy days or if you have less than ideal sun view.

I've included a pic of the series/parallel limitations - this panel can handle connections with 1000v x 25a and this 120W panel can put out a rated max of roughly 20.5v and 5.9a. Make sure you factor that into your calculations for how you're hooking them up.

Build-quality wise this panel looks excellent. It's got a stiff aluminum frame and a pebbled glass surface, so seems rather durable. A baseball or such could still cause damage, but not much would withstand that. This should handle weather just fine.

120 WATT BIFACIAL SOLAR PANEL READY TO GENERATE THE POWER YOU NEED

Weighing just over 15 pounds, this 120-watt Callsun solar panel is impressively clean and rugged. I manage several remote outbuildings and solar arrays on our ranch for water wells, pond pumps, and lighting, and I purchased this specific unit for a storage container. It serves a dual purpose: powering the lighting and ventilation systems while helping to mitigate the Texas summer heat inside the container.

I have come to rely on Callsun panels, and this experience reinforced that trust. Although the delivery driver dropped the box on its corner—hard enough to crack the internal packing foam—the panel itself emerged without a single scratch.

The setup process was seamless, and the system is functioning perfectly. Given the reasonable price point, the bifacial design is an interesting feature. While I am curious to see how much energy it gathers from the rear, I plan to use a tilt mount to expose the backside and maximize the potential power gain.

The build quality is excellent, featuring flawless connectors and a sleek finish. Because this panel is black and the rest of my equipment is silver, it will remain a standalone unit unless I decide to to add more of the same with this one. At this price that may very well happen. The black finish is a sharp touch that allows the hardware to blend naturally into the background. It is a great, well-priced addition to my ranch operations. I have included some photos of the panel mounted on my portable dog box during testing to show its sleek design.

The solar panel worked exactly as we expected it to. My husband has been installing solar now for about 4 years on our house. We keep just finding new locations to put a panel. Attempting to go as off-grid as possible, living in New York does not facilitate having electricity, so we are attempting to provide our own. This solar panel works very well and is exactly what we needed to add to our setup.

Purchased 2 for use with an ecoflow delta 3 power station.
Super happy with the product, lite weight, not bulky, and very durable construction.
Instalation was a breeze due to the lite weight and the compact size.
I got excellent wattage which exceeded the 240 watts during peak sun light, and still get some wattage during overcast day. Super happy about that.
Panels connected with my power station with no issues whatsoever.
I intend on add 2 more callsun 120's in the future.
Highly recommend to family and friends.

Well Made, Works in Partial Shade, Can Charge 24 Volt Batteries

I use this panel to charge a pair of 12V batteries wired in series. The panel connects to the batteries with a Victron charge controller good for 15 amps and 75V. The panel is as described. It is rigid and mounted in an extruded aluminum frame. The frame has numerous holes in the back face for connection to supporting structure. The standard solar plugs are clearly marked for polarity. The panel is heavier than I expected - almost 16 pounds. I can say with confidence that the panel is charging my batteries but I cannot vouch for the exact power output. An important distinction of this panel is that it works well is uneven illumination. My panel is in the shade of open trees for part of the day. The dappled light that gets through is used by the panel. I will buy this panel again if I have a similar application.
