FAQ

1. What do I need to set up an off-grid solar system?

To build an off-grid solar system, you need solar panels, a charge controller to manage power flow, and batteries to store energy. Additionally, you will require proper cabling and connectors to link the panels, charge controller, and batteries safely.

2. Why might my solar panel produce less power than expected?

Solar panels’ output can vary due to environmental conditions such as shade, cloudy weather, high temperatures, or dirt on the panel surface. Regular cleaning and proper installation can help maintain optimal performance.

3. Should I connect solar panels in series or parallel?

Series connections increase the total voltage while keeping the current the same as a single panel. Parallel connections increase the total current while keeping the voltage the same as one panel. Depending on your system voltage and power needs, a combination of series and parallel may be used to match your battery and load requirements.

4. How many solar panels do I need?

The number of panels depends on your energy requirements and battery capacity. Calculate the daily energy consumption and consider the system voltage and hours of sunlight available. This will help you estimate how many panels are needed to meet your load safely.

5. How do I clean my solar panels safely?

Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth or sponge with water to clean the panels. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive tools. Regular maintenance helps maintain maximum efficiency by removing dust, sand, or debris buildup.

Nice panel and standard connectors

This is flexible, but it's not something you'll roll up - it will bend but not roll (think posterboard or a sheet of cardboard). It also does have standard connectors that you can use to set them up in series or parallel (with a limit to each in the book). These are very useful for things like the tops of cars for "vanlife" where you may not want to mount a straight one or need to move it periodically. 50W monocrystalline cells are good for the size and you could get a few of these together without too much trouble, as part of a larger inverter/battery/charge controller setup. I also appreciate that these have the ability to charge even if partially shaded or such (having an in-panel switching setup for that).

Lightweight and Efficient Solar Panel

The Callsun 50W Monocrystalline Silicon, ETFE solar panel is very lightweight at 3.4lb (1.5kg), making it ideal for on the move (camping, emergency, preper) energy generation. It is about a third the weight of my non ETFE polymer solar panels that have similar watt outputs. Although the picture in the descriptions shows the Callsun flexibility, I would be hesitant to bend it at such extreme angles. I could hear small crumpling sounds from the polymer with minimal flexion. Testing the panel's efficiency, I had no problem generating 45Watts in my Bluetti solar generator, despite some clouds and occasional shadows. Being equipped with bypass diodes makes them ideal when the panels are partially exposed to sunlight. The IP68 rating signifies the highest level of protection against dust and water. Make sure you clean the panels ONLY with a damp cloth and water, NEVER use a solvent for it may damage the polymer coating. In conclusion, I am very happy with this solar panel, I have connected it in parallel through the MC-4 couplings without problems.

well made flexible solar panel at a good price

I have quite a few solar panels but this is my first flexible panel. It is still stiff but might fit a boat bimini or RV easier than a framed panel. It is well made with no obvious defects and good adhesion between ETFE layers. Since it is much lighter than a framed panel, it is portable, good for emergency use, but still looks well suited for outdoor applications with secure anchoring. It produced 45w into a GoLabs R100 power station which is quite good as panels often only reach about 80% of their rating due to sub-optimal conditions, angled sun, temperature, clouds, etc. The current price of $1/watt is good and it's even less for the 100w panel which is quite competitive. The solar panel plugs are standard, this panel could be used in series or parallel as part of a larger system if you know what you're doing. I'm impressed with this offering from Callsun.

Extremely Portable, Flexible Solar Panel

This Callsun solar panel is a great deal and it is currently available with a 10% off coupon. The panel is very light weight and flexible, making it easy to transport. I have a solar array that I use for my larger power stations, but this 50 Watt panel is perfect for a day trip or over night camping. Smaller power stations actually (in my experience) seem to work best with lower wattage panels anyway. I plugged the panel into a 500 Watt Power Station on a very cloudy day and it did very well. The most watts I got were 25 today but that’s pretty amazing giving the cloudy conditions. It managed to bring my power station back to 100 percent as quickly as any of my other panels could have managed

I love it when a product delivers on it's promises...

This Callsun panel is everything it says in it's advertising. Very durable materials. Not as flexible as the pic might lead you to believe, but it will conform to curves as advertised. The quality is top notch. The panel has mounting holes that can aid in placement (temporary or permanent). As far as power performance - In ideal DIRECT sunlight it produces 50W. High level, thin clouds will make that drop slightly (I had 46-48 watts). Off angle to the sun (say mounting the panel vertically instead of flat) I got 32-36 watts. So you'll want to point this panel direct as much as possible to get max charge. But all these numbers are quite good. So all-in-all a great product that I have added to my emergency kit. 5 stars!

CallSun is doing a good job like Anker and Renogy - Very Happy with 50-watt panel

I never heard of the company CallSun and I was skeptical. The packaging was great, which was a good omen from the start. I am getting more than 50-watt advertised voltage at the peak sun hours. It looks exactly like my Renogy 100-watt flexible panel, just a little bit smaller - no components looks cheap here. I'm a big fan of Renogy and Anker for electrical stuff. CallSun is trying to establish a name for itself. I would buy from them again. It's hard to know how effective this panel will be over time, but I have a good feeling it will last. It has a 5-year warranty written in clear English instructions in the box. Also, it had an inspection sticker in the box approving its functionality before it left the warehouse.

Small but Mighty !!

The Callsun 50W Flexible Solar Panel is a game-changer for anyone needing portable, high-efficiency solar power on the go. Designed with mono crystalline PERC cells and a 23% efficiency rating, this panel delivers impressive energy output despite its compact size. The flexible, ultra-thin design makes it perfect for curved surfaces on RVs, boats, or camper vans, while the IP68 waterproof rating and ETFE material ensure durability against harsh weather, UV rays, and wear. I tested it with my Bluetti AC2A portable power station, and the pairing worked flawlessly the panel efficiently charged the unit even under partly cloudy conditions, proving its reliability for off-grid adventures. One of the standout features of this solar panel is its lightweight yet rugged construction. Weighing just under 4 lbs, it's easy to transport and install, whether mounted with adhesive or secured via the pre-drilled holes. The ETFE coating not only enhances light absorption but also resists scratches and yellowing over time, ensuring long-term performance. The included 10ft cables with MC4 connectors provided ample reach for my setup, and the panel's low-light performance was surprisingly good, maintaining a steady charge in suboptimal conditions. While 50W won't power an entire RV alone, it's ideal for maintaining batteries, running small appliances, or supplementing a larger solar array. Overall, the 50W flexible solar panel is a fantastic investment for campers, boaters, or homeowners seeking a compact, high-efficiency solar solution. Its compatibility with portable power stations makes it versatile for emergency backup or outdoor recreation. The balance of portability, durability, and efficiency sets it apart from rigid panels, and the sleek black design blends discreetly on any surface. If you need reliable solar power without the bulk, this panel delivers exceptional value just pair it with a quality charge controller for optimal performance.

Delivers the wattage you paid for (Updated Review)

UPDATE: The panel is peeling in 2 locations after 3 months of use. Contacted manufactory and they offered 10% off or to return. Be back if gets worse.

So far so good. I bought a 50w panel but I've see putting out 55w while I was checking. The panel is legit and seems to be very good quality. I've installed on my overland truck on top of a ROAM box and the size was just right. I have connected to my 12v battery to maintain fully charged at all the times plus I have the option to connect to my Ecoflow Delta 2 and or River Max I have while using my Starlink and keep it running forever.

Mine makes 50+ watts

Full sun my EcoFlow showed it at 60watts. I wanted something to keep my little Delta pro charged with nothing exterior of the vehicle so I put this in my windshield it fits perfect. I don’t get the full 50 W from it but for a trickle charge to my Delta pro it’s perfect.

Excellent

I have 3 of these, connected in series to charge a 36 volt battery for a 3 HP Newport electric outboard motor. They are putting out 3 amps, or about 48 watts, in ideal light/angles, charging a 30 Amp-Hour battery. They are just the right stiffness. Sturdy, and easy to handle, and flexible enough to handle moderately curved installation surfaces. I am going to use the sturdy grommets to zip-tie them together into a tri-fold package for transport/storage, and will mount them on top of my dinghy bimini for charging. At low speed, my motor only uses about 50 watts, so with these I can troll all day and go home with an almost fully charged battery!

Great Solar Panel

I recently started experimenting with solar power, and this 50W flexible solar panel has been a great addition to my setup. I'm using it to keep my portable power station topped up while camping, and it's performed admirably. The panel feels well-constructed, and I appreciate its lightweight design. It's much easier to transport and position than the rigid panels I've used in the past.

I've been impressed with its output, even in less-than-ideal conditions. On a sunny day, it delivers close to its rated wattage, and it even provides a decent charge when there's some cloud cover. The MC4 connectors are standard, making it easy to integrate into my existing solar system.

While it's described as flexible, it's more accurate to say it's bendable. It's not something you can roll up, but it can conform to slightly curved surfaces, which is helpful for mounting on an RV or boat. Overall, I'm very pleased with this solar panel. It's efficient, portable, and seems durable enough to withstand regular use.

"Powering the Smart Tank: A Compact and Efficient Solar Solution"

Even though I have 23kW of solar panels, I always need smaller panels for different projects. This specific panel will be located on top of my underground tank to power the Wi-Fi water level meter (so I can check the level directly on my phone), a Wi-Fi controller to activate a pump to prime the pipe when necessary, and a solenoid valve. A huge amount of power isn’t required; in fact, I am using a 12V 12Ah battery, but during the shorter winter days, a larger solar panel is necessary to harvest every electron to keep the battery charged.

This panel is very well built, partially flexible, light, and efficient.

I have used similar panels in the past that were more flexible but much less efficient. Considering the surface area, the output of this panel is quite high.

Six holes on the perimeter allow for easy installation.

The location of the junction box on the same side as the solar cells is interesting and logical: you can install the panel on a flat surface while still having easy access to the wires.

The connectors are standard MC4, although the negative connector is slightly different, making it easy to unplug if necessary.

I measured the output on a sunny day, and it is within the stated specifications, even though it's still only spring.

Considering the size of the panel (which affects shipping costs), the efficiency, and the quality, the price of this panel is a really good deal.

If your project allows, opting for the 100W version might be even better, but it depends on your specific needs.
